Quilt of Support for CIS Students

Written by Kelly Williams

I often think of Communities In Schools of Tennessee (CISTN) as a metaphorical quilt, an extra layer of support for our students and families.

The quilt of CISTN has grown tremendously this year, and now encompasses more than 26,000 students at 59 schools across 15 counties in Tennessee. Our team could not have stitched together each new piece of fabric without your support, and I hope that you will continue to show up for CIS and the students we serve into 2025 and beyond.

Students like CJ - who you can meet here - are counting on us.

CJ was my student last year at Goodlettsville Middle School. My heart broke when he told me he was not returning.

A terrific athlete, CJ was referred to me by the school counselor to help develop his social-emotional skills. We started working together to learn self-regulation techniques and improve his focus in class, and CJ made great progress. He made new friends, his behavior improved, and he became more accountable.

I worried that might all be at risk – until I realized CISTN is in his new school, too. His new program manager, Ms. Fletcher, has been amazing and helped ensure CJ’s transition to his new school was a smooth one.

I’m so grateful for all my colleagues - and for your generous support, which allows us to show up for thousands of students like CJ across the state every day.

We can’t do this work without you, and as we close out the year, I ask that you make a gift to Communities In Schools of Tennessee to advance our mission of ensuring students have the support they need to stay in school and achieve in life.

Thank you for your support, and Happy Holidays.
