Diana's Progress

When Diana first came to South Fentress Elementary, she was quiet and sweet, with a big smile that stood out even on tough days. Life at home hadn’t been easy - she and her siblings were being raised by their great aunt, who was doing everything she could to support them. But for Diana, the challenges showed up in school: she struggled with low confidence, unmet basic needs, chronic absenteeism, and declining grades.

That began to change when she was added to #CISTN program manager, Tara VonHolt’s caseload earlier this school year. With support from her program manager, Diana received one-on-one check-ins, small group support, basic need items, attendance tracking and incentives, and, most importantly, a consistent, trusting relationship.

Now, Diana’s progress speaks volumes. She’s raised her grades in ELA, math, and science - and her attendance has climbed to 95.4%. More than anything, she walks through the halls with renewed confidence and motivation.

Her story is a reminder that when students feel seen and supported, real change is possible.
