Ryan Improves His Attendance in Record Time
Ryan, a student at Taylor-Stratton Elementary, used to average around 20 absences per school year. He struggled to wake up in the mornings, and his mom had difficulty getting him up and ready for school on time.
This year, Ryan’s mom purchased an alarm clock and has been providing consistent positive reinforcement to help him get up and get to school on time. She also started working with the school’s CISTN program manager, Ms. Keyara, to figure out rewards and small incentives to help motivate Ryan’s consistent attendance.
As a reward for his good attendance, Ryan gets to have lunch with Ms. Keyara on a regular basis. She also makes sure to celebrate both Ryan and his mom for their hard work, and frequently texts his mom to applaud their commitment and effort!
At this time last year, Ryan had already accumulated 14 absences. Today, Ms. Keyara is proud to share that since beginning our work together, he has only 2 absences for the entire school year, and both were excused. “Ryan’s progress is truly something to celebrate,” she said. Way to go Ryan!
