Madison’s New Motivation

During her junior year at Lake County High School, Madison had 29 absences, meaning that she missed more than an entire month of school. The smart student did well in her classes when she attended them, but often skipped school.

CISTN program manager Ms. Jacie began working with Madison to improve her attendance and keep her on track to graduate. To help Madison break her habits and create a new pattern, Ms. Jacie and Madison set attendance and career goals, which they tracked in weekly meetings.

Over time, the weekly meetings helped Madison begin to see herself differently, stay motivated, and take pride in showing up consistently. Ms. Jacie offered support and encouragement and Madison made progress: she only missed seven days her senior year!

She also joined Jobs for America’s Graduates of Tennessee (JAGTN), a non-profit organization that helps young people prepare to enter the workforce. Madison was even elected state JAGTN president earlier this year!

Madison’s future is bright: She is attending the University of Tennessee at Martin this fall to pursue a career as a forensic investigator.

Madison’s story isn’t an outlier: Right now, 242 high school seniors we serve are applying to colleges, scholarships, and jobs over the next few weeks. Will you donate today to ensure that students like Madison have the support they need to start their college and careers strong?
