What is your favorite thing about working at Communities In Schools?

I love it when I am able to provide opportunities for students such as high quality after school programming, access to health or human services, or other activities that enhance their experience at our school and in the community. I also just love being around children this age and all of the hilarious things that come out of their mouths.

 

What advice do you have for kids who are struggling in school?

Try to focus on the things in school that you love, and ask your teachers for additional enrichment activities in those areas. If you love art, enter an art contest… if you love math, ask your teachers about innovative software programs that allow you to practice in your spare time or at home.  Also READ as much as you can, always.

 

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Oh boy. Spend time with the people who make you feel good about yourself.


Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I have been skydiving over 20 times.


If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Is being Dolly Parton a job? She is a personal hero of mine. I like the idea of cruising around Dollywood on a float and being queen for a day.


What three traits define you?

Honoring my commitments, finding the humor in situations no matter what and trying my best in this life to follow the golden rule.


What would you like to be your greatest accomplishment?
Maya Angelou said that, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”… I think I just want people to have a warm, good feeling when they think about the time they have spent with me.
 
What is your favorite thing to do?

Kayaking and spending time at different rivers and lakes in the summer…getting really hot and then going swimming.

 

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime? 
This might be a tad obvious, but the internet was not a thing when I was growing up. It’s so exciting to see how this access to information will continue to impact learning for our students and the opportunities that are available to them.
 
Where is your favorite place to be?
Probably my kitchen with my husband and my dogs.
