SPOTLIGHT: Toni Lester, Site Coordinator

July 29, 2016

What is your favorite thing about working at Communities In Schools?
I enjoy being a source of solace and safety to students in my school.

What advice do you have for kids who are struggling in school?
Please ask your teachers for academic support BEFORE the end of each quarter. If you are having any other issue affecting your progress at school, ask your teacher or an administrator for help. CIS may be able to help you.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Stand up for yourself. Be your own advocate!

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I recently edited and proof read a book of poetry. The author is a former English student of mine. I enjoyed reading and analyzing her poetry. The book should be published in early 2017.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Full-time housewife.

What three traits define you?
Transparency, introspection and empathy.

What would you like to be your greatest accomplishment?
My daughter’s future success would make me even happier than my own accomplishments.

What is your personal philosophy?
It is what it is…live in the reality of things.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Teaching middle school English.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
The smartphone. I remember a time when it would take days to return a call or to get information mailed to you…and we were all good with that. Now, we share information instantly.
